Google Photos Lets You Make Edits Using Your Voice

Google introduced a new feature in Google Photos, a popular application for storing, organising, and editing images. Google Photos allows users to organise their photos, create albums, do basic image processing, and share them with others. The new feature enables users to edit photos using natural language commands, both voice and text, which greatly simplifies the editing process and makes it accessible to a wider audience. The function will be implemented on Pixel 10, the latest generation Google smartphone equipped with advanced cameras and a high-performance processor, allowing users to use artificial intelligence-based editing tools in advance.

The “on-demand editing” function runs on Gemini AI, Google’s next-generation artificial intelligence system designed to understand and accurately execute user instructions in natural language. AI is a field of computer science that creates systems capable of performing tasks that require human intelligence, such as image recognition, text processing, and decision-making. Gemini AI is able to perform both simple and complex commands, offering a variety of photo editing tools. It copes with basic tasks, such as lighting adjustment, colour improvement, and removal of unnecessary objects, as well as more creative changes, including replacing the background, adding new elements, and adjusting the image in detail.

Pixel 10 supports the C2PA Content Credentials standard, developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). C2PA Content Credentials is a technology that embeds verifiable information about the origin, history, and editing of digital content directly into files, including whether artificial intelligence was used to create or modify an image. Transparent metadata helps users trust the authenticity of the photos they view or share, supports the responsible use of AI content, and reduces the risk of spreading misinformation.

The on-demand editing feature, available from the middle of the week, simplifies the photo editing process and makes advanced creative tools more accessible to all users. By combining intuitive AI assistance with verifiable content metadata, Google allows users to experiment creatively while maintaining confidence in the authenticity and integrity of digital media.

In the future, Google plans to expand these features to Google Photos on iOS and Android devices, expanding access to innovative tools for a global audience. This initiative reflects Google’s broader strategy to introduce advanced artificial intelligence technologies, such as Gemini AI, into everyday applications.
