Meta Partners with Midjourney to Bring AI Tech to Upcoming Products

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, the global social media platform connecting billions of users and enabling communication, content sharing, and digital marketing, signed an agreement with Midjourney. This generative AI laboratory specializes in creating high-quality images from text prompts using advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, to license startup technologies for its future models and products.

According to Alexander Wang, Facebook’s chief AI specialist, the technical cooperation will include joint research and development work by the teams of both companies, combining expertise in AI, visual content creation, and user experience.

The agreement reflects Meta’s strategy to enhance the appeal of its products through superior visual content, while simultaneously intensifying efforts in artificial intelligence (AI), a branch of computer science dedicated to designing systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as image recognition, language processing, and decision-making. This initiative positions Meta in direct competition with OpenAI, the research company behind ChatGPT, a conversational AI model designed to interact with users in natural language, as well as with Google, a technology leader with extensive AI capabilities.

Midjourney provides its AI tools for image generation to individual users and subscription companies, allowing creatives and marketers to create visual content that previously required professional design skills quickly.

“We are impressed with Midjourney,” Wang wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, highlighting that Meta combines top talent, robust computing infrastructure, and collaborations with industry leaders to develop cutting-edge products and features.

It is expected that this cooperation will accelerate the emergence of new creative tools for Meta users and marketing specialists, reduce the cost of content creation, and increase engagement on the company’s platforms. Using Midjourney technologies, Meta strives to offer a more dynamic and personalized experience that meets the changing requirements of users in the field of digital communications and marketing.

The agreement comes amid the reorganisation of Meta’s AI division under the Superintelligence Labs brand, an initiative launched following the departure of several top executives and a lukewarm reception to Llama 4, Meta’s latest open-source language model designed for advanced AI applications. This restructuring reflects Meta’s broader commitment to staying competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape while leveraging external innovations to enhance its core products.
